Dr. Gibson Ferguson is based at the Univeristy of Sheffiled in the UK. His research is focused on language policy and planning. One of his main interests is the spread of English as a global lingua franca. In particular, he has explored the potential detrimental impact of the spread of English on other languages and the communicative inequality between scientists who have English as a first language and those who use it as an additional language, especially when it comes to placing their work in high-ranking international journals.
