Thursday, 28 October

Walking tour: Getting to know Tarragona – 19:15 ~ 20:45. Starting shortly after the Thursday afternoon workshops end, local organizers will take anyone interested on a walk intended to help you get your bearings in Tarragona. We’ll start at the workshop and conference venue, go through parts of the old city and Rambla area, pointing out recommended places or areas where you can find restaurants or tapas bars afterwards to get a bite to eat with old and new friends.

Friday, 29 October

Welcome drinks and tapas after the first plenary talk. At the conference venue.

Saturday, 30 October

Closing dinner. Venue to be announced. It is possible to opt out of the dinner (fee reduction of €35 on the registration form).

Sunday, 31 October

For those who will be spending an extra day in Tarragona and wish to take part in some sort of leisure activity with MET colleagues, we would like to make the following suggestions.

Beach walk: All those interested will meet on the Passeig de les Palmeres outside the Hotel Imperial Tàrraco at 10 a.m. We will then walk to the local beach (L’Arrabassada) and from there over rocks and sand to the Long Beach (about 6 kilometres). Once there we will decide whether we wish to continue our walk through the Bosc de la Marquesa (Marchioness Wood), one of the most picturesque natural spots on the Golden Coast, or whether we just chill out before having lunch in one of the beach bars and retrace our steps.

Guided tour of Roman Tarragona: Tarragona was once the capital of Hispania Citerior, one of the largest provinces of the Roman Empire. Today the historical center of Tarragona occupies the old Roman citadel. If you are interested in understanding the influence of the Romans on the city’s history, why not come on a guided tour of Tarragona’s imperial past? Among other places, we will visit the oldest Roman walls in the Iberian Peninsula, the provincial forum and the recent excavations of the Roman circus.
