Guidelines for manuscript preparation and submittal have become longer and more complex as publishers have shifted increasing responsibility for editorial and production work onto the authors. This workshop will explain which points in journals' instructions to authors deserve priority, which points can be dealt with later in the manuscript revision process, and which points may require expert assistance. The aims of the workshop are to enable authors' editors and translators to use the instructions to authors as efficiently as possible as a tool that will help ensure the manuscript navigates the submittal and review process successfully.

Karen Shashok, translator and editorial consultant, Granada, Spain. Karen has been a freelance translator and editorial consultant for about 20 years, and has published in European Science Editing (EASE), Learned Publishing, BMJ, Medscape, the Pan American Journal of Public Health, Panace@ (MedTrad), The Write Stuff (EMWA), Editing Matters (SfEP), and the WAME list.
