SfEP/SI 1st joint conference: Collaborate and innovate

The conference will be held at Derwent College, one of the ten colleges that make up the University of York. Situated on the Heslington West campus, within walking distance of York city centre, the college offers a self-contained suite of conference rooms with accommodation just round the corner.
Joining forces gives us the opportunity to offer a rich and varied programme. Highlights include John Thompson (a founder of Polity Press, Professor of Sociology at the University of Cambridge and author of Merchants of Culture: The Publishing Business in the Twenty-First Century) as Whitcombe lecturer; workshops and seminars on a range of topics, from an introduction to Word to book art and its role in developing literacy, from indexing for editors to the use of corpora; and an after-dinner speech by the linguist, editor and indexer (and Honorary vice-president of the SfEP) David Crystal.
