Getting to Girona

By air

There are two main airports serving the city: Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) and Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN).

From Girona-Costa Brava Airport

By bus
Girona airport is only 12 km – or a short bus ride – from the city centre. Buses operated by Sagalés run roughly once an hour and stop at the depot next to the main train station in the heart of the city. A single ticket costs €2.75. To find more info and view the timetable, click here.

From Barcelona-El Prat Airport

Barcelona is only 100 km or so south of Girona, a distance easily covered by bus or by train.

By bus
Bus operator Sagalés runs services from both terminals at Barcelona airport, although departures are much less frequent than from Girona airport. A single ticket costs €19. The timetables are available here (choose Aeroport del Prat de Llobregat for Barcelona airport).

By train
Take the R2 commuter train from Terminal 2 to Barcelona-Sants station. If you land in Terminal 1, hop on the free shuttle bus to Terminal 2: it leaves from Level 0 Arrivals in Terminal 1 every 4 to 20 minutes, depending on the time of day. Once at Terminal 2, follow the signs to the train station.

From Sants, you can catch a direct train to Girona. AVANT and AVE fast trains take 38 minutes (book online); other services are cheaper and take about an hour and a half (book online or buy a ticket on the day). See here to search train timetables.
