Zoom how-to

N.B. You can't connect to Zoom and Wonder simultaneously unless you have two independent webcams and microphones. Best practice is to leave one platform and join the other.

Finding session links

Sign in to the conference, open the programme and click the Zoom icon beside the session you want to attend.

Turning your audio and video on and off

In interactive sessions (Zoom meetings), toggle your audio and video by clicking on the icons at the bottom left of the Zoom window or pressing Alt+A for audio and Alt+V for video.

In presentations (Zoom webinars), you can’t turn your camera on. So no one can see you, and you can’t see other attendees except the presenter and host. You also won’t be able to turn on your microphone, unless you have been invited to speak (e.g. to elaborate on a question you asked in the Q&A box).

You can test your audio and video at any time using this Zoom test link.

Changing your view

In interactive sessions, toggle between gallery and speaker views by clicking on “View” at the top right. In speaker view, scroll through the participants by clicking the double arrow or pressing page up or down.

In webinar presentations, to adjust the view when the presenter is sharing their screen, click on “View Options” at the end of the green bar that appears when someone is sharing their screen. You can also adjust your view by dragging the double bar between the slide and the presenter to the left or right, making them larger or smaller, as you wish.

Chatting with attendees and the presenter and host

Click on “Chat” at the bottom of the Zoom window or press Alt+H to open the chat box.

In interactive sessions, you can send your messages to everyone or specific attendees.

In webinar presentations, you can chat with everyone or just presenters and the host (Zoom panellists). If you can’t see the “Chat” icon, the chat box is disabled.

Using the Q&A box (webinars only)

In webinar presentations, you can put questions to the presenter via the Q&A box.

Click on “Q&A” at the bottom of the Zoom window to ask a question and see any questions already asked and possibly answered.

Sharing your screen

Although you probably won’t need to share your screen at a MET event, click on “Share Screen” at the bottom of the Zoom window or press Alt+S if you do.

Taking a break

In interactive sessions, simply turn off your video and audio to take a break. You can also leave Zoom, but you may have to wait when coming back as the host will have to see you in the waiting room and let you in.

In webinar presentations, you can leave and join anytime you want via the link.
