2023 Workshop season round-up

23-08-2023

MET’s CPD season opened in February with the second online session in our Lifehacks for language professionals series. Former nurse Emma Goldsmith offered data-driven insights into workspace ergonomics and Jacqueline Costa tackled the thorny issue of stress, giving us practical tips to cope with it in our personal and professional lives.

April saw an eagerly awaited return to in-person workshop days, with an intense day of peer-led training in Valencia (Spain). Valerie Matarese addressed the pitfalls of writing about numerical data; Nancy du Plessis gave a hands-on session on dealing with public speaking nerves; Katarzyna Szymanska shared her expert knowledge on molecular techniques and PCR; and Elina Nocera, Theresa Truax-Gischler and Allison Wright cast their critical eyes on the shifting sands of the AI landscape.

In an online workshop in May, Alicja Tokarska took an in-depth look at inclusive language. Alicja talked us through unconscious biases, ways to make texts inclusive and how to approach exclusionary language with our clients before an interactive second half looking at language-specific texts.
