Designing a persuasive presentation
Making a presentation that hits the spot involves more than a pretty slide deck. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to go about designing your time “on stage” to ensure you achieve your goal. The method applies to any type of public speaking, from a five-minute elevator pitch to a full-blown keynote. The workshop is an opportunity for trial and error in a friendly, non-judgemental environment.
Facilitator: Emma Paulay
Purpose: To learn and apply the steps involved in designing a presentation that fulfils its purpose.
Description: In this relaxed, hands-on workshop, participants will first observe a short presentation demonstrated by Emma and discuss what makes it successful. Having discovered the keys to success, participants will then apply the design process to a fictional example produced individually. Opportunity will be given to deliver the resulting presentations.
Participant profile: All language professionals, whether self-employed or in-house, who may need to deliver presentations to showcase their work, share their ideas, teach or train.
Outcome: By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to identify the purpose of a presentation, write a scenario that will speak to their chosen audience and flesh it out with clear messages.
Preparation: None.
