METM25 FAQ
Before you book
We want to make METM25 an inclusive event. To help everyone feel comfortable, here’s what we have in place so far:
- Pre-METM mixer online in September to connect or reconnect with fellow attendees.
- Opt-in attendee list with photos on the website so you can put names to faces before you arrive.
- Name badges for all attendees. Colour-coded lanyards: red for council members, green for first-time attendees, blue for repeat attendees and yellow for meal guests. Some attendees will have a white ribbon on their lanyard to show they’re local. (Take a white ribbon when you check in at the desk if you’re local and willing to give advice or help with directions.)
- A pinned map showing the conference venue and key off-METM locations.
- Seating areas on the ground and lower-ground floors of the venue.
- A public library 600 metres away, as a quiet space, open Thursday-Friday 9:30-13:30 and 15:30-20:00, and Saturday 10:00-14:00.
- Interactive and potentially noisy sessions signalled with an asterisk on the programme.
If you need anything else, please contact Hayley Smith before the conference.
- The conference venue is in Barcelona’s Horta-Guinardó district and is easily reachable by metro and bus. See our Getting Around page.
- All pre-conference workshop rooms and two of the parallel-session rooms are on the ground floor of the conference venue. The main auditorium, Aula Magna, is on the first floor, accessed via a broad staircase and a lift. See venue map (coming soon).
- Our Friday evening reception and Saturday lunch buffet will be held at the conference venue. These are standing events. Seats are available if needed.
- The conference venue has five women’s and five men’s toilets on the ground floor. Additional toilets are available on the lower-ground floor and second floor.
For all other queries contact Hayley Smith before the conference to let us know how we can help.
We’re keen to make METM25 as green as possible. This means no printed programme, swag, bag, paper raffle tickets, plastic cups or bottles. For the conference, please:
- Consider road and rail travel options if time and budget allow.
- Organize ride shares and find travel buddies on the METM25 LinkedIn group (see registration confirmation email for link).
- Use the conference app or print out the programme before you travel.
- Bring a bag, notepad and pen (unless you’re a digital note-taker).
- Bring a reusable water bottle – you can fill up at the water fountain on the ground floor.
- Dispose of any rubbish in the colour-coded bins near the ground-floor toilets.
- Get your raffle ticket on the day by clicking the button at the bottom of My METM, which you can access after you register.
Guests are welcome at the following off-METM events:
- Wednesday pre-dinner drinks for early arrivals (just turn up; pay at the bar)
- Choir (just turn up at the rehearsals and sing at the closing dinner)
- Friday evening reception (sign-up and payment required)
- Closing dinner & after-party (sign-up and payment required)
- Sunday walk (just turn up)
- Sunday boat trip (see booking information)
Everything else is attendee-only.
You can cancel your registration at any time by writing to our treasurer, Jacqueline Lamb. The cancellation fee is €40 until 31 July, €70 until 31 August and €150 until 30 September. No refunds will be processed after that date.

At the conference
Check out the venue map (coming soon) and this pinned map for all key METM25 locations.
The desk will be open from 14:00 on Thursday. See the programme for details.
Please pay at the restaurant. We book the tables and you split the bill with your fellow diners.
To arrange shared meals, travel or accommodation with fellow attendees, post in our private LinkedIn group (METM25 Barcelona Attendees). As an alternative to our off-METM tables, meet up with other meal buddies by the registration desk:
- Thursday dinner: meet at 18:00 (to decide where to go and when)
- Friday lunch: meet at 12:30 (to go directly to lunch)
Ask at the registration desk if you need help reserving. See list of local restaurants (coming soon).
Restaurant opening hours in Spain are usually long and late. Lunch is mostly 14:00-15:30; dinner generally 20:30-23:00. We recommend booking tables in advance. If you need help reserving, ask at the registration desk or catch a local attendee wearing a white ribbon. See list of local restaurants (coming soon).
Yes, the café at Casa Convalescència serves drinks and snacks, and has a set lunch menu available 13:00-15:30. Opening times: weekdays from 8:00 to 18:30. Closed at weekends.
Vegan options are available at coffee breaks, the Friday evening reception, and lunch and dinner on Saturday.
Barcelona has plenty of vegan-only restaurants and vegan dishes offered at others. See list of restaurants (coming soon). Many restaurant owners will adapt to special dietary requirements if asked (especially if you call in advance).
Barcelona has a fleet of around 10,000 black-and-yellow taxis. Taxis can be taken at one of 300 designated taxi ranks, including at the airport, railway stations and bus stations, or hailed on the street if the green light on the roof is lit.
See the AMB website for information on taxi ranks, fares and bookings.
