Getting around Carcassonne

Despite online estimates of walking times, Carcassonne is a very compact city. Just remember to pack comfortable shoes for the final climb to the citadel gate (Porte Narbonnaise). You will be rewarded with stunning views of the citadel and River Aude along the way.

Carcassonne also has an e-bike share service (CYCLOlibre), with charging stations located at the train station, city centre and outside the citadel.

Buses 2, 3 and 4 all run between the station (Chénier Gare), town centre and the citadel (Cité Médiévale). The Grand Carcassonne website has a helpful summary of the relevant lines and stops, plus a link to the timetables (scroll down to “Getting around Carcassonne”). The urban bus-route map shows all stops. Bus times may be unreliable.

Taxis

Taxis bring you to the citadel gate but no further. From there, it's a five-minute walk to the conference centre.
