Proofreading: adding the finishing touches
Thomas O’Boyle, Madrid, Spain
The manuscript is now written and the text edited. It’s time to review the proofs. In this interactive session, we’ll discuss to what extent the text can be modified at the proofreading stage. After considering the problems faced by the proofreader, we’ll try to establish some common ground and then put our proofreader pens to paper.
How does it work?
In small groups, we’ll use text excerpts to address various aspects of proofreading, from deciding where we draw the line between text editing and proofreading to the more controversial aspects of the process of proofreading.
Who should attend?
If yours are the last pair of eyes to see the text before publication, then this is the session for you! The session will be fun and fast-paced but can get loud, so it may not be a good fit if you’re noise-sensitive.
What will you need?
Pen and paper only. All excerpts will be handed out or shown on screen.
