METM26 FAQ

Before you book

We want to make METM26 an inclusive event. To help everyone feel comfortable, here’s what we have in place so far:

  • Attendee list with photos so you can put names to faces before you arrive. Accessible on the website to attendees only; email addresses will not be visible.
  • Name badges for all attendees. Colour-coded lanyards: red for council members, green for first-time attendees, blue for repeat attendees. The local team will wear a yellow lanyard. Ask them for advice or help with directions.
  • Pinned map of the conference venue and key off-METM locations.
  • Interactive and potentially noisy sessions are signalled with an asterisk on the programme.
  • The venue lobby can be used as a quiet space during the conference. It is spacious and has sofas.
  • Respeaking (live captioning) will be provided at the plenary sessions.

If you need anything else, please contact our membership chair, Hayley Smith, before the conference.

  • The conference venue is the Hotel Giò Wine & Jazz Area, in Perugia, Italy. See our Getting around page.
  • The conference centre is split over several floors. There are stairs and a lift. You can explore the venue using this interactive 3D map.
  • Saturday lunch and closing dinner buffets will be held at the conference venue. The lunch is a standing event. Seats are available if needed.
  • The conference venue has four women’s and four men’s toilets on the same floor as the conference sessions. Additional toilets are available on the ground floor (around the reception area).

For all other queries, contact Hayley Smith before the conference to let us know how we can help.

We’re keen to make METM26 as green as possible. This means no printed programme, swag, bag, raffle tickets, plastic cups or bottles. For the conference, please:

  • Consider road and rail travel options if time and budget allow.
  • Organize ride shares and find travel buddies on the METM26 LinkedIn group (see registration confirmation email for link).
  • Use the conference app or print out the programme before you travel.
  • Bring a bag, notepad and pen (unless you’re a digital note-taker).
  • Bring a reusable water bottle.
  • Get your raffle ticket on the day of the general assembly by clicking the button at the bottom of My METM.

Guests are welcome at the following off-METM events:

  • Wednesday pre-dinner drinks for early arrivals (no sign-up)
  • off-METM table on Friday evening for attendees with plus-ones (sign-up required)
  • Sunday walk (no sign-up)

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate guests at the Saturday lunch or dinner or any coffee breaks.

You can cancel your registration at any time by writing to our treasurer, Jacqueline Lamb. The cancellation fee is €40 until 31 July, €70 until 31 August and €150 until 30 September. No refunds will be processed after that date. Workshop cancellations only will be subject to a €10 administrative fee.

You may change your off-METM and workshop choices. Saturday lunch and dinner are buffets, so no choices need to be made in advance. Go to My METM to update your dietary requirements, allergies, badge text and other options (city tour, theatre tour, off-METM meal tables, yoga). Some options will be frozen just before the conference. We'll let you know before this happens.

To switch workshops, contact our CPD chair.

This year we can’t unbundle the catering offer, so no dinner opt-outs are allowed.

No. Wear whatever feels right for you, whether that's conference casual, chic or something in between.

We have a “Show & Share” table beside the registration desk where you are welcome to display your portfolio or an article or book you’ve edited or translated. Attach a business card if you wish and remember to retrieve your work before you leave.

If you have any other queries before you set off, write to Justine Sherwood.

At the conference

Check out this interactive venue map and this pinned map for all key METM26 locations.

The desk will be open from 13:00 on Thursday. See the programme for details.

Off-METM meals will be organized on Thursday and Friday evening. Sign-ups will open around mid-June: keep an eye on your METM26 comms for news. These meals are not included in the conference fee – we book the tables and you split the bill with your fellow diners.

To arrange shared meals, travel or accommodation with fellow attendees, post in our private LinkedIn group (METM26 Perugia Attendees). If you haven’t got set plans for meals during the conference, meet up with other potential meal buddies by the registration desk:

  • Thursday dinner: meet at 19:15 (to decide where to go and when)
  • Friday lunch and dinner: meet at 12:45 or 19:30

Ask at the registration desk if you need help making a reservation. See list of local restaurants (coming soon).

Restaurant opening hours in Perugia are usually 12:00-15:00 for lunch and 19:00-23:00 for dinner (some restaurants may close later). We recommend booking tables in advance. If you need help making a reservation, ask at the registration desk or catch a local attendee wearing a yellow lanyard. See list of local restaurants (coming soon).

No, but there is a café nearby, Mastro Cianuri, which also sells ice cream, pizza and focaccia. There is also a Greek restaurant, Lezioni di Greco, and a supermarket just outside the venue. The city centre and the areas around the Minimetrò stations have plenty of options. See list of restaurants (coming soon).
